Madness!

Funny Girl (1968)

It’s disappointing to find out that most of the story in the film were fabricated. Apparently, the sugar coated Nick Arnstein’s involvement with gangs and Fanny Brice’s ugliness. But generally, I actually liked it even though the film, especially the musical sequences, was too long.

When Omar Sharif (Nick) first appears on the screen I was like omg, magician! With the ruffles on his shirt and the heavy accent and strong features..he really looked like a sort-of hot magician. I found it really weird/funny when Nick suddenly burst into song in “You Are Woman, I Am Man”. I didn’t expect that Omar Sharif would sing. He looked awkward singing but still cute. Then again… Marlon Brando sang in Guys and Dolls. Very hot. Anything goes!

Barbra Streisand was being herself. I swear, I feel like her personal life and  her movie roles are one and the same. I didn’t understand how she could call herself ugly when Streisand wasn’t ugly. Perhaps it’s her distinguishable nose? Her nose is sort of big but definitely not ugly. If you Google the real Fanny Brice… hah. And I love her costumes/clothes in this movie. So classy and fierce.

I read her biography once in the school library. Fascinating. I think I’ll borrow it again. Whenever I get bored from studying, I visit my ~favorite shelves/section~ in the library, where all the books about movies, tv and biographies of film stars and all the call numbers start with “PN”.
