Hors de Prix / Priceless (2006)
The film is a light comedy about a gold digger, played by Audrey Tautou, and a hotel bartender, played by Gad Elmaleh, who pretends to be rich so she can “fall” for him.
I didn’t really like it that much. Some parts were funny, like the techniques they use for “seduction” and Jean’s bartender mannerisms and the “Prince” bit. The character Jean is pretty pathetic to have fallen for someone like Irene. She’s beautiful, loves money and expensive things…and that’s pretty much it. Hmm. I guess some guys would really do anything for lust.
But the overall message is both sexes would do anything to get money. Oh wow. Not my cup of tea, especially since I heard this was going to be like Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.
Oh and I really can’t get Amelie out of my head. Amelie is Audrey, Audrey is Amelie. Any deviation from that needs extreme convincing. Her role as a gold digger was sort of weird. She’s too thin. My sister just bought A Very Long Engagement so that’s going to be Tautou movie. With Marion Cotillard!
