Blades of Glory (2007)
This was a really fun movie. I love the concept of male pairs figure skaters! lol, I find it really difficult to write something lengthy when it’s about a comedy.

Cinema Paradiso (1988)
Cinema Paradiso made me appreciate the magic, beauty and simplicity of movies even more. Toto grew up loving movies because of the excitement it brings, especially when sensual scenes are projected on the screen. He even manages to learn how to run the projector simply through observation because of his fascination with movies. For me, one of my favorite shots were the faces of the people watching...

Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog (2008)
I was never a fan of Buffy, but I did like a few of the episodes a friend of mine made me watch in high school! :D She let me borrow her vhs tapes lol! And I also remember the musical episode “Once More with Feeling” so that was more or less a good reason to watch Joss Whedon’s web series, Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog!! Oh, and Neil Patrick Harris is another reason....

The Machinist (2004)
Wut. As much as I’m obsessed with Christian Bale, he does not look hot in this film. :( The story is so twisted. But in a good way. I have to thank (although…not really because watching an anorexic Bale was torture) a friend of mine for giving me a copy. ** POST WILL BE EDITED SOON!**

Velvet Goldmine (1998)
I do not know anything about glam or glitter rock. I’m still sort of confused after watching it.. all those UFOs and Oscar Wilde and sparkling. Hehe. I watched this out of curiosity because I watched August Rush again (hello Jonathan Rhys Meyers). He has a GREAT voice, by the way. I also didn’t know he was so young in this film. Oh and the music was amazing. brb dwnldng. Christian...

My Sassy Girl (2008)
Hmm.. It was ok. I’m bound to compare it to the Korean version but it was ok. Elisha Cuthbert lacked the spunk of that Korean actress (whoops forgot her name). But at least Jesse Bradford is 10000x cuter than that fug actor in the original Korean version. Too bad this will be a straight-to-dvd release in the US. It isn’t that bad if you haven’t watched the original… I...

The Full Monty (1997)
omg I love this movie. I knew I’d like it but I didn’t realize I’d LOVE it. I actually bought a VCD last year but I had difficulty understanding their heavy accents. I ended up buying it on DVD..and it was on saaallleeeee!!! :D ** POST WILL BE EDITED SOON!**

St. Elmo's Fire (1985)
The first time I saw this movie, I remembering feeling disappointed because the characters weren’t in high school :( I think I was in high school when I first saw this so a Brat Pack movie on “after-college” events were unappealing and too “adult” for me. I was expecting like a mini-reunion (minus two) of The Breakfast Club. Anyway, I really enjoyed watching this...

It's a Boy Girl Thing (2006)
It has the body-swapping problem similar to Hot Chick, Freak Friday, that movie with Fred Savage and that other movie with Dudley Moore and that Growing Pains guy. It was ok but in my opinion, Hot Chick was better. Although…Hot Chick’s more of a slapstick comedy movie compared to this romantic comedy. Which reminds me, I didn’t think they had chemistry. Kevin Zegers is too...

27 Dresses (2008)
It’s cute. The story was a bit far-fetched though. She’s obsessed about weddings and became a bridesmaid 27 times? I also can’t get over the way she was so mean to her sister. And vice versa. Jane (Katherine Hiegl) was also undeserving of the love and affection of the cutie Kevin (James Marsden :o) because she’s too preoccupied with weddings and her boss. Why would they...

Good Night, and Good Luck (2005)
Interesting and intense. Unfortunately, watching this in class was painful. I wanted to doze off so badly. And I’ve forgotten a lot about this film. I wrote a reaction paper for this but it’s too academic. Boo.

On the Edge (2001)
Guy’s dad dies. Guy goes out of control. Steals his dad’s ashes. Crashes the car. Goes to a rehabilitation center. Guy is in denial, claims he has no problem or mental issues. Guy falls in love with a sort of insane girl. Guy befriends insane/shy/quiet guy. Spoiler: Insane/shy/quiet guy kills himself. Guy is depressed about it, but life moves on. I haven’t watched a lot of movies...

A Little Romance (1979)
I wanted to watch a light and romantic movie just to relax and this was one of the recommendations. And when I saw that Laurence Olivier was in it, I immediately wanted to watch it! But I was sort of disappointed to find out that he was already old in this. lol. I don’t know why I didn’t double check the date of the movie. 1979. Hello! I was also surprised that a very young Diane...

The Dark Knight (2008)
You know, I wasn’t super excited about watching The Dark Knight until watching American Psycho. Honestly, I forgot how I liked Batman Begins when I first saw it so II searched far and wide for the dvd after watching The Dark Knight and I was ecstatic when I found one at Odyssey in Harrison. Anyway, I made time to watch this even if I had to worry about our thesis because of the following...

August Rush (2007)
I’ve watched this twice. Thank you so much to my sister for buying the DVD. I didn’t know anything about the movie and didn’t bother to look it up when the DVDs arrived. I loved it. Ack. The story and the music was extremely moving and lovely. I think the last time a soundtrack gave me shivers was Jeux d’Enfants. I loved all the songs in the soundtrack. Kaki King, the...

Wuthering Heights (1939)
My sister owns a lot of classic books and I tried reading a few novels to cure my boredom during my OJT. I chose Wuthering Heights because I had just finished reading the MTV book, Wuthering High by Cara Lockwood, and decided that I am in love with Heathcliffe. From Wuthering High. The book really got me interested in the novel by Emily Bronte and after reading it (I finished it, omg), I was...

Bringing Up Baby (1938)
I think this was recommended to me because this movie was like the first romantic comedy. And it was alright :D I was extremely entertained by the slapstick actions and jokes. The storyline was a bit too far-fetched… well too silly! I guess that’s why it’s called slapstick/screwball. And what’s up with the leopard? Haha! I loved Katherine Hepburn in this film. I thought...

Brief Encounter (1945)
I have never heard of this movie before watching The History Boys. Which is kinda sad if you think about it. Critics revere this as one of the best romance/drama movies (it’s also in my 501 Must See Movies) and I never really knew about it until Posner and Scripps renacted the ending. The story is really simple but the effect on you is unbelievable. What if you’re completely...

My So-Called Life (1994-1995)
How could I have missed out on this show?????? Well, to answer my own question, I was like 8 when this first showed so I wouldn’t really be able to watch it. Haha. My sister used to collect Tiger Beat magazines with Jared Leto’s face plastered all over the covers (Hmm.. occasionally, actually. I think JTT’s face was more prominent in the covers). And when 10 Things I Hate About...

American Psycho (2000)
The only reason why I watched this strange and violent movie is because of Christian Bale. He has become my fangirl crush of the moment. While it’s true I found him really cute in Little Women (oh and Samantha Manthis being in this movie was also cute, even if I still think Jo and Laurie are MFEO), I didn’t find him as hot as he is until watching this movie. And Batman Begins. ...

Rope (1948)
My first Hitchcock movie! And it was definitely interesting. It isn’t the conventional suspense or thriller movie (not that I’ve watched a ton of those kinds of films) but I found myself covering my eyes when the housekeeper almost opened the trunk. The movie was recommended by my uncle because of the unusual method of filming. The continuous shots and the not-so-obvious cutting of the...

Cry Baby (1990)
This movie is simply a bucket of lolz. But in a good way! :) I have a feeling that all of John Waters’ films have a strange, kooky, demented look and feel to it. This isn’t my first time watching Cry Baby but it felt like it was since I wasn’t as into Johnny Depp back then. Johnny Depp is gorgeous. Seriously. Even if he looked stupid dancing and lip synching to bad 50s music,...

Skins Series 2 (2008)
**Contains spoilers if you haven’t seen series 2. It started out ok. Too much Maxxie though. And then, series 2 reached its peaked in Chris’s episode (Chris/Jal!)… And it all came tumbling down after that episode. In short, series two was a major disappointment. It was too dramatic and sad. They didn’t have to kill him! Anwar didn’t have a single episode so I...

Dead Like Me (2003)
A college dropout, Georgia “George” Lass is killed by a toilet seat that falls from the MIR space station on her first day at a temp agency. Upon death, she is recruited for a team of grim reapers - undead who mix among the and take people’s souls just before they die. Along with fellow team members Mason, Roxy, Betty, and leader Rube, George discovers life after life. (from...

Freaks and Geeks (1999)
After 8 or so years of reading it in American magazines, I have finally watched Freaks and Geeks. I used to buy the US version of Seventeen/Teen/YM and they always feature this as an “up & coming show” and later on, a “cult show”. Unfortunately, the show was cancelled after one season because of low ratings. I really hate it when they cancel really good shows. Like...

Casablanca (1942)
“Kiss me as if it were the last time.” Watching Casablanca for the first time was wonderful. The DVD was given to my parents as a wedding anniversary present and it has been lying around the house for at least three years now. My sister and I decided to finally watch it so we can find out what the fuss is all about. I think one of the reasons why this film is popular is the clever mix...

Funny Girl (1968)
It’s disappointing to find out that most of the story in the film were fabricated. Apparently, the sugar coated Nick Arnstein’s involvement with gangs and Fanny Brice’s ugliness. But generally, I actually liked it even though the film, especially the musical sequences, was too long. When Omar Sharif (Nick) first appears on the screen I was like omg, magician! With the ruffles on...

Watching the Detectives (2007)
I’m a sucker for romantic comedies. And I was really intrigued with the title of the film and the fact that the lead character owns a video store called GUMSHOE! Loved it. And the “film noir” detective scenes were fab. This was an okay romantic comedy. It tries too hard to be “quirky” but most of the time it works. I think Lucy Liu as Violet is over the top...

Ratatouille (2007)
If the Oscars didn’t have a category for Best Animated Feature, I think Ratatouille would definitely deserve a nomination for Best Picture. I mean, this film is more intelligent, funny, witty and insightful than… No Country for Old Men and Juno, the only Best Picture nominated movie I’ve seen so far). I’m so glad my sister bought the dvd without batting an eyelash on the...

Enchanted (2007)
FINALLY I GOT TO SEE THIS!!! Ooh I loved it! It was so cute and ~romantic~ (sort of)! The film reminded me sooo much of my Disneyfied childhood. From the storybook, the traditional animation, the songs, the happily ever afters…! I know there’s been studies that children should not be “exposed” to fairy tales, especially Disney versions, because it might tamper with their...

No Country for Old Men (2007)
Hmm… It was ok. It’s not something I’d enjoy watching again but the characters are really interesting to dissect and observe. I watched this with my dad and the entire time I was partially covering my ears and eyes whenever I *think* there’s going to be gun shots or people getting killed. Haha. It’s an instant reaction. Javier Bardem’s character is insane and...

Hors de Prix / Priceless (2006)
The film is a light comedy about a gold digger, played by Audrey Tautou, and a hotel bartender, played by Gad Elmaleh, who pretends to be rich so she can “fall” for him. I didn’t really like it that much. Some parts were funny, like the techniques they use for “seduction” and Jean’s bartender mannerisms and the “Prince” bit. The character Jean is...

Dirty Pretty Things (2002)
“Desperate times calls for desperate measures.” The story revolves around illegal immigrants in the London area who constantly have to find ways to avoid immigration officers, or else they will be deported. The main characters are Okwe, a Nigerian doctor employed in a hotel in London, played by the oh-so gorgeous Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Senay, played by Audrey Tautou, a Turkish women...

Central Station (1998)
I stay away from dramatic movies because they usually make me cry. And I hate crying during movies :( Well, if I’m watching the movie all by myself, it’s alright with me. I was able to watch this terrific film during class and for my classmates to witness me bawling is not my cup of tea. Central Station is funny/sad/insightful/inspiring/touching in all the right places. It is never...
